Map the trees of Indiranagar!

​Indiranagar is defined by its trees, but are they represented on the map? Join us for a hands-on workshop to document the green canopy of Indiranagar on OpenStreetMap, taking you from physical observation to usable open data in a single afternoon.

​In this field-to-digital session, we will walk the streets of Defence Colony to identify and annotate natural features. You will learn how to observe and record attributes that make this data useful; marking trees, shrubs, and greenery currently missing from the map. Afterwards, we will gather to digitize these observations and learn how to add them to the global OpenStreetMap database.

​Open to all! No GIS or previous mapping experience needed. 

​Prerequisites

• ​Laptop for the digital mapping portion of the day. 

• ​Willingness to walk for approximately 90 minutes.

​Instructors

​Aman: Data visualization developer at Revisual Labs by day, making data applications and stories at Diagram Chasing by night. Bylines in Reuters Graphics, Unearthed (Greenpeace), and Rest of World. Interested in urban development, history, open-source software, and cartography.

​Vivek: Leads the OpenStreetMap Bengaluru group. Open data hobbyist. Government website collector. Occasional mapmaker.
