About Event

SF Game Development is excited to be hosting an event during SF Tech Week with a hands-on session from Discord on building community around your game. Join us in person at DNA Lounge on Tuesday, October 6th from 5:30pm–9:00pm. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from an industry expert, who will take the stage at 7:00 pm.

Whether you're a seasoned game developer, an aspiring artist, a student, or an indie creator, this event is designed for you. Come mingle with like-minded professionals and enthusiasts, and enjoy some pizza and bits sponsored by Discord. There's a full-service bar at the venue with all proceeds supporting the venue. Your participation helps us continue hosting fantastic events in their 3,000 sqft space. You'll also get a chance to demo indie games and meet the speaker involved with the event.

Building Your Discord Server Through Every Stage of Game Development
Anthony Tešija — Senior Developer Advocate at Discord

The best game communities start long before launch day. Learn how to build a community and evolve it through your game's alpha, release, and beyond. We'll cover channels, roles, events, moderation, and how to bring players straight from your game into your community and keep them engaged.

Anthony will walk through the four stages every game passes through — in development, alpha/beta, release, and post-release — and what your server should actually look like at each one: why starting minimal beats over-building, how forum channels turn scattered feedback into organized bug reports, how community invites can auto-assign your beta testers, and how Rich Presence and bots can bridge your game and your server to turn players into organic marketing.

Anthony is a Croatian-American game developer, installation builder, and music-based visual artist based in San Francisco who has been shipping software professionally since 2013 and has released over twenty games and tools for other developers. At Discord, he works with studios on the Social SDK and the developer platform — most recently sharing Discord's acquisition, retention, and monetization roadmap. Come with your questions; he's the person who can answer them.

See you all there!
