No Rails, Just Trails 🥾 An Angel Island Hiking & Picnic Adventure
Let’s get Ruby off the Rails and onto the trails! We’ll escape the city for a scenic ferry ride to Angel Island, explore some beautiful trails with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco skyline, and enjoy a picnic together.
We’ll start with a casual walk to historic Camp Reynolds (approximately 2 miles round-trip), then offer two options depending on how much hiking people want to do:
Short adventure: Return on the 2:35 PM ferry, arriving in San Francisco at 3:05 PM. Plenty of time to head back to your hotel, shower, and get ready for the closing party!
Extended adventure: Continue exploring the island’s trails and return on the 4:55 PM ferry, arriving in SF at 5:25 PM. From there, it’s a short walk to Mux HQ for the 6 PM closing party.
Schedule:
9:30 AM (optional): Coffee and introductions at Red Bay Coffee inside the Ferry Building.
10:00 AM (optional): Grab lunch to go from a vendor in the Ferry Building or one from the Thursday farmer’s market just outside - or BYO picnic lunch.
10:30 AM: Meet at Golden Gate Ferry Gate B, ready to board (fare is $20 roundtrip).
10:55 AM: Ferry departs for Angel Island, arriving at 11:25 AM.
2:35 PM / 4:55 PM: Choose your return ferry.
Cost: $20 round-trip using Clipper or a contactless credit/debit card (including Apple Pay). Everyone purchases their own ferry fare. Lunch and coffee are optional and at your own expense.
What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, water, layers, sun protection, and a packed lunch or snacks. The hike is easy to moderate, with some inclines and optional stairs.
Transportation: No car required! The Ferry Building is easily accessible via Muni and BART.
RSVP: No formal hiking experience necessary. I’d love a rough headcount to help coordinate the group.
The outing is weather- and ferry-dependent, so we’ll keep an eye on conditions as the date approaches.
