About Event

โ€‹๐Ÿ“‹ Event Description

โ€‹Everyone and their grandma is hosting a hackathon. This is the one where you build something physical.

โ€‹Silicon Alley Hack is a one-day, in-person sprint for builders who'd rather solder than ship a vibe-coded app. Microcontrollers. Sensors. Connected devices. Real hardware that runs in the real world and has to work when we plug it in on stage.

โ€‹Application-based. Teams of 4.

โ€‹Every team gets an STM32 development board and peripherals on arrival. Bring your laptop, your wits, and your soldering instincts.

โ€‹๐ŸŽฏ The Problem Statement

โ€‹Software ate the world and then got bored. The interesting frontier moved back to atoms - robots that navigate a room, drones that deliver, sensors that make a physical space legible to a machine. All of it runs on constrained silicon, in real time, in places where the cloud is too slow, too far, or not there at all.

โ€‹So that's the terrain: edge intelligence. Machines that sense the world and act on it, on-device.

โ€‹๐Ÿ”ง The Challenge Theme

โ€‹The sealed spec will live somewhere in here:

  • โ€‹Sense โ†’ decide โ†’ act, running on-device

  • โ€‹IoT, sensors, and connected devices

  • โ€‹Physical/digital interaction โ€” things that move, respond, or react

  • โ€‹Anything that runs on hardware, not just in a browser

โ€‹Constraints you can count on:

  • โ€‹You'll be working on an STM32 development board and peripherals - get familiar before you show up

  • โ€‹It has to run live. Slides don't win. Working hardware wins.

  • โ€‹First team to solve it take the prizes. This is a race, not a showcase.

โ€‹โšก What to Expect

  • โ€‹A live race-to-win challenge dropped at kickoff

  • โ€‹An STM32 dev kit + peripherals for every team, free

  • โ€‹5 hours of focused build time

  • โ€‹Team formation on-site, or come with your crew

  • โ€‹Breakfast and lunch provided

  • โ€‹Exciting prizes for the winning

  • โ€‹A room full of NYC's hardware people - embedded engineers, drone builders, robotics founders, spatial-data folks

โ€‹โฒ๏ธ Schedule

  • โ€‹10:00 โ€“ 11:00 AM โ€” Doors open. Breakfast, networking mixer, team formation.

  • โ€‹11:00 โ€“ 11:30 AM โ€” Partner intros, Root Access demo, challenge drop, rules & judging criteria.

  • โ€‹11:30 AM โ€“ 4:30 PM โ€” Build sprint. Lunch provided. Clock does not stop.

  • โ€‹4:30 โ€“ 5:15 PM โ€” Live hardware demos to the judges.

  • โ€‹5:15 โ€“ 6:00 PM โ€” Photos and Mixer.

โ€‹๐Ÿ† Prizes

โ€‹A mix of cash, credits, and perks for the winning team. Sponsors are getting locked in โ€” full breakdown announced before doors.
