Engineering the Reliability of Healthcare Technology

How do biomedical engineers keep healthcare technology reliable, and what happens when equipment fails?

From CSSD systems that support effective instrument reprocessing to radiology equipment used in medical diagnosis, healthcare depends on technology that performs reliably.

In this session, we explore how these systems work, the technical challenges engineers encounter in hospital environments, and the practical approaches used to investigate equipment failures and maintain performance.

What we'll explore

  • Understanding CSSD systems: The equipment behind cleaning and sterilization, how it operates, and common technical challenges.

  • Radiology equipment in practice: Exploring X-ray and mammography systems and their role in diagnostic services.

  • Learning from equipment failures: Real-world radiology failures, troubleshooting approaches, and lessons from the field.

  • Maintaining equipment reliability: Preventive maintenance, fault investigation, and the biomedical engineer's role in supporting dependable healthcare technology.

Meet the Speaker: Martin

Martin is a Medical Engineer at Fuji Kenya Ltd, specializing in medical imaging, CSSD technology, and hospital equipment engineering.

His experience includes equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and technical support, with specialization in Fujifilm X-ray and mammography systems and Getinge CSSD solutions.

Through his industry experience, Martin will share practical insights into equipment performance, technical failures, and the work involved in supporting healthcare technology in hospital environments.

Who should attend?

Biomedical engineering students, recent graduates, practising biomedical engineers, and anyone interested in medical equipment engineering and healthcare technology.

Join us to connect engineering knowledge with real-world hospital practice and explore what it takes to keep healthcare technology reliable.
