About Event

Stephanie Cash and Shawna Weaver will cohost a salon style event to discuss creative response and community activation.  It will be an interactive conversation led by Shawna who will walk us through coping to resilience and action when it comes to the climate and environmental issues. She will have copies of her book, Climate Grief, available for purchase.

Shawna Weaver, PhD, has spent 20 years in the intersection of climate change science and mental health, studying how people respond to climate and finding strategies for a return to human-climate symbiosis. She spent three years in San Diego during the Covid pandemic writing about climate grief, and her book Climate Grief: from a coping to resilience and action was published in 2023 by Lantern. She is now gathering community stories of climate resilience and innovation for her next publication.

She currently lives at the western tip of Lake Superior on the longest freshwater sand bar in the world, bearing witness to neighborhood beavers, river otters, herons, and ducks who still hold together a fragile northwoods ecosystem.

She works on several sustainability projects and is the director of learning and engagement at the Great Lakes Aquarium.

Stephanie Cash considers herself a Citizen of the Earth and loves bringing people together to share their stories and connect people who have common goals for making our planet sustainable. She will be doing a little Show and Tell by sharing the book, A New Humanity, Embracing Our Responsibility for the Earth. You’ll have the opportunity to hear the New Humanity Pledge by Ilchi Lee and sign the pledge via your smart phone.
