About Event

The last two weeks have changed the terrain of the AI safety debate with ministers now opening the door to legislation.

The UK government has resisted an AI Bill until now, but increasingly the question is what type, how narrow, and when, rather than if, AI legislation will come.

This 45-minute webinar brings together industry, civil society, and legal experts to make sense of where things stand and what comes next.

We'll cover:

  • Is a Bill coming in the next King's Speech — and what would it actually cover?

  • Why are OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind all backing regulation now?

  • What can existing watchdogs do right now?

  • UK vs EU: where convergence is likely, where divergence is deliberate

  • What good AI governance looks like today

Panellists: Aidan Peppin, public policy manager, Cohere; Michael Birtwistle, associate director at the Ada Lovelace Institute); Kate Deniston, AI lawyer at Bird & Bird; Tom Bristow (moderator).

The event lasts 45 minutes, split between a 30-minute panel and 15 minutes of audience questions.

It will be held on Google Meet.
