Nadi Katha: Stories from India's Rivers - an interactive session with Parineeta Dandekar
We have heard and lived with the stories of India's rivers through loss: dams, pollution, disasters, conflicts and crisis.
Let us explore the other side of the story, of river origins and confluences and deltas. Of poems and songs and memory. Of boat races and river festivals.
Let us explore stories of riverine deities who demand no performative aratis, who are the keepers of glaciers, of deep pools and riparian forests.
Let us look at free flowing rivers and the communities who protect them, at fish pools and the myths that keep them safe.
Rivers of India are in crisis, but they are anything but dead. There is much to save, to cherish and even to celebrate.
Our collective work around rivers moves through protest and struggle. And it also gains strength through memory, wonder and hope. The session is part field notes and part advocacy for hope.
