​ABOUT THE MOVIE

​This is an advanced screening of the new documentary SOBER, which follows a group of people who have risen from the ashes of addiction in Los Angeles, proving that recovery isn’t just about getting sober but also about reclaiming joy, strength, and community.

​The film explores the rise of The Phoenix, a nonprofit founded by Scott Strode, as it evolves from a single man's journey to sobriety through fitness and connection into a nationwide movement of over one million people united by the power of community in recovery.

​The same forces that drive addiction—loneliness, trauma, and disconnection—are now fueling a broader mental-health crisis.

​One in three Americans struggle with mental health or substance use.

​Yet the system built to help them was never designed to reach this scale. The current behavioral health landscape is fragmented, expensive, and dependent on institutions that most people can't access.

​In its first year, The Phoenix served 17,000 people and achieved one of the lowest relapse rates in the country. Today, the movement reaches 17,000 new people every week—with more than a million people served to date.

​The Phoenix is now pursuing an ambitious goal to reach 10 million people by 2030, powered by our $150 million Together Transforms Tomorrow campaign. This film is a piece of the campaign designed to spark awareness, inspire change, and fuel the fundraising needed to bring that vision to life.

​The film is designed to help the Phoenix reach and serve more people by inspiring action, expanding community-led programs, and activating new leaders and supporters.
