AIO-009: You Can Do Everything
Welcome to the party, pal. Join us for another AI Ops — Melbourne Meetup, featuring two talks from local AI maniacs building at the frontier of what's possible.
Adam Brock, founder of Hypermatic, gives a developer perspective on reverse engineering and building with AI.
Lauren Basser, Senior Product Designer at Netwealth, gives a designer perspective on serving AI the context it needs to do useful design work.
No AI 101. No 45-minute AI SaaS demo hostage situations. No thought leadership. Just people doing the actual work.
Agenda
5:30pm - 6:00pm: Optional early doors at the BuildPass offices. Come straight from work for food, drinks and a chat, or arrive at 6:00pm for the official start. Nothing important will happen before then.
6:00pm - 6:30pm: Meet fellow AI optimists over food, drinks and golden era '90s hip-hop. Designers, developers, product people, marketers, founders and anyone else doing increasingly unhinged things with agents.
6:30pm - 6:50pm: Talk #1: Adam Brock, founder of Hypermatic. A developer's perspective on the state of reverse engineering and building anything with AI.
6:50pm - 7:00pm: Q&A with Adam - ask about reverse engineering, coding agents and what happens when "I don't know how to build that" stops being a good excuse.
7:00pm - 7:15pm: A short break for more food, drinks and bathroom trips.
7:15pm - 7:35pm: Talk #2: Lauren Basser, Senior Product Designer at Netwealth. A designer's perspective on giving AI and humans the context they need to do great design work.
7:35pm - 7:45pm: Q&A with Lauren - ask about design, context and why the AI hasn't automatically absorbed everything you know about your project.
7:45pm - 8:30pm: More food, drinks and conversation, then home to check on your agents.
Please arrive before 6:30pm, as we won't have anyone downstairs after that (when the talks kick off).
Sponsors
The meetup is sponsored by Iterate (iterate.com.au) - a boutique recruitment partner for the Technology, Product and Design industry.
Check them out if you're looking for a new role, looking to hire, or have discovered that your employer's "AI transformation strategy" is giving everyone Microsoft Copilot and hoping for the best.
Also sponsored by Hypermatic (hypermatic.com) - save 15+ hours per week with their Premium Figma Plugins.
A big thanks to PropelX (propelx.group) for helping cover drinks.
And a huge thanks to BuildPass (buildpass.ai) for letting us back into their offices despite having witnessed these events before.

Feel the AGI on the first Wednesday of every month.
Hear short, practical talks from people building and working with AI.
See real projects, workflows and experiments.
Swap techniques you can steal and try the next morning.
Talk about what's happened in AI over the last few weeks.
Speed-run our collective existential crisis.
You SHOULD apply if:
You're optimistic about technology and AI.
You're actively building, designing, creating or automating things with AI.
You're using coding agents like Codex, Claude Code or Amp.
You're experimenting with context, MCPs, skills, memory, tools, sub-agents or other increasingly baroque agent infrastructure.
You spend unreasonable amounts of your free time trying new AI tools.
You'd rather see someone's messy real workflow than another slide about "AI-powered transformation".
You live your life a quarter mile at a time and --dangerously-skip-permissions.
DO NOT apply if:
You basically have a fake job and don't do any real work.
You're an AI doomer who wants to nuke the data centres from orbit.
You think "workflow optimization" means scheduling another recurring meeting.
Your primary objective is to corner someone near the drinks fridge and sell them your AI SaaS.
You think AI is just hype, but haven't tried building anything with it.
You haven't shipped anything real, but you have a lot of AI takes.
Your role exists primarily to slow things down, add friction or wait for permission.
You say "humans will always be in the loop" with the suspicious confidence of someone who's never met an autonomous coding agent.

BuildPass, Level 2, 33 Stewart Street, Richmond
Right next to Richmond Station's Stewart Street exit. Look for the AI Ops signage on the street-level door and head into the lobby, where someone will buzz you up. Please arrive before 6:30pm, as we'll be kicking off then and won't be able to stay downstairs.
Free to attend. Capacity is limited, because Melbourne contains far more AI maniacs than we originally thought.
