About Event

Hi PyLadies Berlin!

We’re excited to invite you to our next PyLadies Berlin meetup, hosted by nebenan.de at their office in Berlin!

This workshop introduces you to the core concepts related to forecasting models!

🎤 Can AI Predict the Future? - Exploring Time Series Foundation Models
🗓️ When? Thursday, November 19 from 6:30pm
📍Where? nebenan.de
📚 Get ready for a practical session this month, as we will use time-series foundation models hands-on to predict the future!

Time-series foundation models promise useful forecasts without training a model from scratch. In this practical PyLadies workshop, we will test that promise on a small public dataset by comparing simple forecasting baselines with zero-shot foundation models such as Chronos-2, TimesFM 2.5, t0-gamma, and Kumo Forecast. Using a straightforward backtesting strategy and practical evaluation metrics, we will answer an important question: does a foundation model beat a sensible baseline on this data? Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to prepare, test, and compare such forecasting models, and take away concepts they can apply to their own use cases.

✨ Dr. Irena Bojarovska is an Applied Scientist at Zalando SE, working at the intersection of forecasting, pricing, and data-driven commercial decision-making. Her academic and professional background combines applied mathematics, machine learning, and scientific research. Her current work explores how emerging AI models can accelerate experimentation and improve business decisions, with a focus not only on predictive accuracy but also on model stability, downstream impact, and how AI is reshaping scientific workflows by shortening the path from research to working prototypes.

Prerequisites: Medium to advanced Python proficiency and an interest in agentic frameworks.

✨ nebenan.de is Germany’s largest online neighbourhood network, run by the Berlin-based Good Hood GmbH. It connects people living near each other so they can share news, help each other out, organise local events, and buy, sell or give away things.

❓ How to register ❓

The registration is via this Luma page.

Since there is very limited space, please be mindful and cancel your participation if you are not able to attend the workshop, so someone else can enjoy the pleasures of maths and coding.

❓ Can men attend ❓

Although allies are normally welcome at our events, this particular session is intended as a FLINTA*-only due to the limited room capacity.

🍕 There will be food and drinks (with vegetarian and vegan options, thanks to our sponsor nebenan.de and the Pyladies Germany fund)
