About our venue 

Sprout Society is a nonprofit community hub + DIY space in Bushwick for creativity, community, and care. Drop in, co-work, gather, host, take a class, find your people. Anyone is welcome through our doors, regardless of what they're going through or what they can afford.

About our co-hosts 

The Bar Nun Life brings people together through non-alcoholic experiences focused on wellness, art, technology, and vegetarian dining.

Courtney Seyl (they/she) is a playwright, director, and stage manager based in Brooklyn, NY.

  • University of Puget Sound BA in theatre arts and English

  • residency with ARTBARN in Tacoma

  • directing participant in Intiman Emerging Artist’s Program in Seattle

  • attended Kennedy Center’s Playwriting Intensive by Gary Garrison in the cohort of the Voices of America writers workshop

  • directed “Clean Slate” by Rachel Leighson off-Broadway at The Flea

  • stage managed “In the Devil’s Hands” by Helen Banner with Zoopraxis Theatre

  • premiered their first full length play REVOLUTION at The Tank Theatre which won the Off-Off-Broadway Award for Best Performance in a play

  • their play “Compulsion” came in fourth at the Irondale on Women Festival in the New Media Storytelling Category and was featured in the Shelter ‘n’ Play podcast

FAQs 

Who is this event for?  

This event is free with registration and open to the public (ages 18+). Any minors must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Our community is diverse and inclusive, so sober or not, you are welcome to join in having fun!

What is the dress code?

Business or business casual are recommended but not required.

What beverages will be served? 

Bar Nun will serve non-alcoholic drinks (below the 0.5% ABV limit). Please note that some may resemble alcohol. If you may be pregnant, have medication interactions, dietary restrictions, etc., please review product ingredients and consult a medical professional before consuming.

Will there be food? 

We may provide some light snacks for this event, but you are also welcome to bring your own food.

Is parking available? 

We don’t offer guest parking. There may be street parking but please plan ahead as finding a spot in this area may take extra time.

Is the event accessible?  

Yes, we have an elevator and bathroom that are wheelchair accessible via the 449 Troutman St. entrance. Please let us know if you need any accommodation by emailing namaste@barnun.life, subject line “Dry Socials - [Event Date] Accommodation Request".

What happens if I am late?  

While this is a low-pressure opportunity, we recommend arriving on time to take advantage of our short time together. Some venues may have limited capacity so will be first come, first serve.

Will there be a photographer on site? 

You are welcome to share and tag @barnun.life #BarNunLife for your captures. On-site photography and videography may be present. Please review our photo release form during sign up for further questions.
