Our Reefs, Our Future: Coral Reefs and the Global Biodiversity Framework
Coral reef conservation reaches across many of the Global Biodiversity Framework's targets, spanning protection, sustainable use, climate resilience and finance, making coral reefs a vital focus for GBF delivery. The GCRMN Status of Coral Reefs of the World 2025 confirms that recovery time between climate disturbances has narrowed from decades to 5-6 years, though reefs retain real capacity to recover with urgent action to reduce carbon emissions and effective, locally led stewardship. The new 50 Reefs+ analysis is helping to identify where that resilience and recovery potential is strongest. Building on momentum from the Our Reefs, Our Future campaign and the High-Level Commitment to Protect Climate-Resilient Coral Reefs, now signed by 20 countries, this session connects governments and partners with the latest science. Together, they will share practical lessons on translating commitments into real improvements in coral reef protection, management and monitoring.
