how can storytelling create change? (Q&A w/ journalist Kate Yoder & @evanyellsatclouds)
What you should know (food! fun! friends!)
About the event:
June's monthly theme is STORYTELLING and how it intersects with the climate crisis. The second Tuesday of the month is our LEARN night
We're going to have Evan and Kate (scroll down below) chat with us on storytelling from different angles: social media, reporting, and more
No boring panels though! A big portion of this night is connecting with people who care and making storytelling relevant to your own life/conversations
Please do your best to arrive by 6:30!
6-7ish will be dedicated dinner + chat time, 7-8pm will be our expert Q&A with conversational breakouts, and 8-9pm will be choose-your-own-adventure peer learning
More broadly:
Soapbox Seattle is the city's most joyful community space for climate action. We gather EVERY TUESDAY same time same place (climate church?? lol)
It's all ages
Plant-based dinner is always included so you don't have to think about what to eat. We have our own lovely chef so the food is cooked with love from local and regenerative farmers
No you do not have to be "a climate person" to come; you just need to be excited to meet people who share your values of caring about the earth/each other/wanting to breathe air etc. and no experience is required!
There will be activities and programming! This is not one of those networking events where you pretend to be on your phone because you don't know what to do.
All our events are sliding scale and if the litsed options don't work for you, you can request a reparative ticket here if you need one. It costs us ~$35 per person to put on so please contribute what you can
About our speakers:
Kate Yoder is a senior staff writer at Grist covering climate change through the lens of language, culture, and history. Her work has received a FOLIO: Eddie & Ozzie Award and a SEAL Environmental Journalism Award for bringing fresh perspective and social relevance to environmental issues. She has been at Grist since 2015 and is based in Seattle.
Evan Sutton, whom you likely know as @evanyellsatclouds, is a storyteller and creator. As his bio says on Instagram, he's "Fighting broligarchy. Baking pie. Feeding local vermin. AI isn't intelligent. Chatbots aren't your friend. Billionaires are bad for all of us."
This space is hosted by Soapbox Project, a nonprofit that creates joyful community structures to heal our climate anxiety and loneliness through expertly facilitated connection, learning, and action activities. Find your place in the climate movement with our online and in-person community!
