Suminagashi: Floating Ink
Suminagashi invites you into one of the world's oldest art forms.
Born in 12th-century Japan, it means “floating ink” — the practice of dropping ink onto still water and watching it bloom into patterns no hand could draw on purpose. You breathe, you touch the surface, you let go. Then you lay a sheet of paper over the water, and the image becomes yours, captured once and never the same twice.
Over the course of the session, you'll try different techniques, and from them, a series of prints will emerge, each with its own soft pattern of concentric rings and ripples. You'll also get to know different papers, as you play with the textures each one brings. There's a quiet focus to it, part craft, part meditation, and you'll leave with pieces worth framing, made by your own hands.
No experience needed, only curiosity.
