About Event

💸 Can free markets solve our biggest environmental crises—or are they making things worse?

Join us at The Faight Collective for a talk with Maximilian Auffhammer, UC Berkeley economist and former lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who specializes in the economics of climate, energy, and the environment.

In this lecture, Max takes on the myth that markets function best without government regulation. Drawing on evidence from around the world, he shows how unchecked market failures and inadequate policy interventions have fueled unprecedented environmental degradation. But he doesn’t stop there—Max also highlights solutions developed by economists at Berkeley and beyond, offering a roadmap for how markets and governments can work together to address climate change, pollution, and resource challenges more effectively.

This talk brings clarity (and a dose of humor) to one of the most urgent questions of our time: what happens when markets fail—and how can we fix them? 🌍📉
