About Event

[01] WHAT IS IT?

MatSec brings together people from cybersecurity and infosec who share a love of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Skip the conference small talk and swap it for a few rounds on the mat with people who speak your language on and off it.

[02] WHAT TO EXPECT

A seminar-style class led by a BJJ black belt, with time to drill technique, optional sparring rounds and an open Q&A. Afterwards, we head out for food and drinks nearby: the best place to carry on the conversations you started on the mat.

[03] WHO’S LEADING IT?

Nick Tiscoe is a 2nd-degree black belt under Kev Capel (Roger Gracie), with 20 years of coaching experience. He founded MATSEC Cyber × BJJ networking events and has hosted five events bringing the security and grappling communities together. Alex Smith, resident black belt at RGA HQ will be offering first class instruction.

[04] WHAT DOES IT COST?

Free to attend, with a £20 donation to charity. Places are free. We ask every attendee to donate £20 (or more if you can) to the Panathlon Foundation, which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs the chance to compete in sport. Our target is £1,500.
Donate here: https://panathlonfoundationltd.enthuse.com/pf/intaso
Please donate before the event, and don’t tick Gift Aid: your place includes a rash guard, coaching and refreshments, so the donation doesn’t qualify for it.

[05] WHO IS IT FOR?

Everyone, from first class to black belt. The session is built so beginners can join in comfortably and experienced grapplers still get something from it. Sparring is optional, and partners are matched by experience and size.

[06] WHAT TO BRING

[Gi / shorts or leggings], water and a towel. We’ll provide your rash guard: just tell us your size when you register.
