Voice AI 101
Voice AI is having its moment.
The demos are impressive, the tooling has become dramatically cheaper, and it's easier than ever to convince yourself that every product needs a voice agent.
But before you build one, there's a more important question.
Should this even be voice?
Most teams jump straight into models, latency and prompts. Very few step back to ask whether a phone call is actually the right interface or whether a WhatsApp message, a simple workflow, or a human handling the process twice a week would achieve the same outcome for a fraction of the cost.
This workshop is about making that decision well.
We'll break down how modern voice agents work, what the current ecosystem looks like, where the technology is genuinely production-ready, and where it still falls short. We'll look beyond polished demos and discuss what happens when you move from ten successful calls to ten thousand.
Along the way, we'll build voice agents live using the same tools teams are shipping with today. You'll see how the stack comes together, where latency actually comes from, how telephony changes the problem, and what matters far more than simply choosing the latest model.
And we have Anirudh Gupta ( Product Manager) at Square Yards, who built and scaled it.
We'll also be joined by the Siddhant(CTO of Omli Kids), who has been building Voice AI in production. Instead of another theoretical architecture session, he'll share the engineering lessons that only emerge after real users start interacting with your system- what broke first, what surprised the team, and what they would do differently if they started again today.
Nothing is recorded, so the demos stay informal, the discussions stay honest, and everyone can openly share what they're building or evaluating.
Agenda
10:30 – 10:45 · Why Voice AI, and when not to use it
10:45 – 11:15 · What a modern voice agent actually is
11:15 – 11:45 · Live demos: building a voice agent with today's stack
11:45 – 12:00 · Break
12:00 – 12:30 · Guest Session: Shipping Voice AI in Production Led by the Siddhant , CTO of Omli Kids
12:30 – 1:00 · Where voice succeeds—and where projects quietly fail
1:00 – 1:30 · Pressure-testing your use cases
1:30 – 2:30 · Networking
What we'll cover
Should this be voice at all?
The most valuable question you'll answer all day. We'll explore when voice creates a better user experience—and when chat, forms, messaging, or human workflows are the smarter solution.
How a voice agent actually works
Speech-to-Text, LLMs, Text-to-Speech, telephony, streaming, interruptions, memory and latency—explained without unnecessary complexity, so you can reason about the architecture and ask better questions.
The current Voice AI stack
We'll build live using the tools teams are adopting today, including platforms like ElevenLabs, Bland AI, Vapi and Retell. You'll understand what each layer does, where they fit together, and which choices actually matter.
Shipping Voice AI in production
Siddhant CTO of Omli Kids shares lessons from building real Voice AI systems:
Choosing the right architecture
Managing latency and interruptions
Prompt engineering for conversations
Monitoring production systems
Human handoffs
What they would build differently today
What actually makes these projects succeed
Most Voice AI projects don't fail because of the model. They fail because of telephony, poor workflows, weak monitoring, unrealistic expectations, or simply solving the wrong problem. We'll discuss where teams spend engineering effort and where they should.
Pressure-test your own idea
Bring a use case. We'll evaluate it together—whether voice is the right interface, what success should look like, and how we'd approach building it today.
Who is this for?
Founders evaluating Voice AI for their product or operations
Product Managers exploring voice as a new interaction surface
Engineering leaders deciding whether to build or buy
Engineers who have worked with LLM APIs and want to understand production Voice AI
Operators looking to automate customer conversations, support, onboarding or internal workflows
No previous experience with Voice AI is required.
What to bring
Bring one use case you're considering.
If you already have numbers, even better:
How many conversations or calls?
Who are the users?
What is one successful outcome actually worth?
Those three numbers usually determine whether Voice AI is a great investment—or an expensive distraction.
Don't have a use case yet?
Bring your questions. You'll leave with a much clearer understanding of where Voice AI belongs, where it doesn't, and what it really takes to ship something that works.
Why this workshop is different
Most Voice AI workshops teach you how to build a voice agent.
This one teaches you when you should build one, how to build it if you decide to, and what actually happens after it reaches production.
You'll leave with enough practical understanding to confidently evaluate vendors, scope projects, choose the right architecture, and decide whether Voice AI is the right investment for your team.
Who is leading the session?
The workshop is led by Anirudh Gupta, who has built and scaled Voice AI systems at Square Yards. The session draws from real production experience- covering not just how voice agents are built, but the decisions, trade-offs, failures, and lessons that emerge once they start handling real users at scale.
Joining him for a dedicated technical deep dive is Siddhant CTO of Omli Kids, who will walk through the engineering side of building Voice AI in production. He'll share the architecture, tooling, implementation decisions, and operational challenges that come with shipping reliable voice systems.
Together, the workshop combines a product and operator's perspective with a production engineering perspective- helping you understand both whether you should build Voice AI and what it actually takes to build it well.
