Feeding the Future or Feeding the System? AI, Agriculture, and Africa’s Food Sovereignty
Agriculture remains one of the most important sectors in Ghana’s economy. It feeds the nation, supports millions of livelihoods, and connects rural communities to urban markets. At the same time, the sector is evolving.
Artificial intelligence is beginning to shape how farming works—through digital platforms, mobile advisory tools, satellite data, and market systems. These tools are influencing how farmers make decisions, how produce is priced, and how goods move across supply chains.
Ghana is also home to the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, placing the country at the center of a new phase of intra-African trade. As agricultural goods move more freely across borders, new opportunities are emerging for farmers, agribusinesses, and innovators.
These shifts are happening at the same time, and they raise important questions. How is AI shaping agriculture in Ghana today? Who owns the data and systems behind this transformation? How can Ghanaian farmers and businesses benefit from both digital tools and expanded markets? What does it take to build an agricultural system that is resilient, inclusive, and competitive across Africa?
This edition of Beyond AI brings together farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and technologists to explore these questions in a grounded and practical way. The session will feature a focused panel discussion followed by a hands-on workshop on AI tools relevant to agriculture, with a focus on real applications within the Ghanaian context.

Why This Matters
Ghana’s agricultural future is being shaped now—through technology, policy, and market access.
As the country positions itself within AfCFTA, there is a growing opportunity to connect local production to continental markets. At the same time, there is a need to ensure that farmers, businesses, and institutions in Ghana are active participants in this transformation.
This session creates space to engage with these questions in a practical and accessible way.
