​The Climate Party® is building a Scenius - collective genius - for Climate solutions in India.

​Climate Parties are a series of immersive learning & ecosystem building events curated to enable interdisciplinary solutionists, either already working in or seriously considering a transition to the Climate space, to discover more of their kind across domains and cross-pollinate ideas for collaborative action.

​Our climate parties across 8 cities over the past 2 years have brought together 4,000+ diverse Climate stakeholders, from CXOs to students, and culminated in tangible actions.

​About this immersive experience

​In partnership with Suzhal Arivom, we're taking you to one of Tamil Nadu's zero-cost, high-ROI infrastructure, not built by humans but by nature - a Wetland!

​But why would we take you to a swamp on a Sunday morning?!

​Because this nature-made infrastructure does the job of a flood buffer, a water treatment plant, and a carbon capture facility - all for free, and probably better than anything humanity could engineer!

​Most of us think of backwaters & wetlands as scenery: a nice backdrop for birdwatching & great photos. But the Kovalam-Nemmeli Wetland - a 5,000-acre coastal wetland - is far more consequential. It absorbs storm surges before they reach Chennai, filters and stores water and locks away carbon in its soil and vegetation, year after year, at zero construction cost and zero maintenance bill. Economists call this 'blue infrastructure' which just happens to look like mud and reeds!

​Here's the twist: Nemmeli is recognised as one of 141 priority wetlands under the Tamil Nadu Wetlands Mission. Yet, over the years, it has faced pressure from pollution, sewage discharge and desalination infrastructure*. And right now, it's at the center of a controversy: the Tamil Nadu government is planning to convert part of this ecologically-rich wetland into Chennai's sixth drinking water reservoir - Mamallan reservoir - a move being actively contested by ecologists, hydrologists, ornithologists & local fishing communities. Whatever happens next, this may be one of the most crucial times to walk this landscape to know what's at stake.

​Join us for this guided walk through Kovalam-Nemmeli led by Suzhal Arivom**, a local action group, to witness what "nature-based infrastructure" actually looks like on the ground and why it is the smartest climate investment that Tamil Nadu can benefit from!
