AI Safety Frontier Lab Coordination Workshop - NYC (invitation-only)

Details

Monday, October 13th, 2025 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET (Optional lunch at 12:00)
NYC Impact Hub | Invitation-only

What This Is

A small closed-door pilot workshop (max 10 participants) to prototype formats for cross-lab coordination on AI safety. Your participation is non-committal and focused on providing input—not representing your organization.

This workshop builds on the Global Call for AI Red Lines launched at the 80th UN General Assembly (September 2025), signed by 200+ leaders, including 10 Nobel laureates and leading AI researchers. It was emphasized by Yoshua Bengio, Anthony Aguirre, and other leading voices during the second edition of AI Safety Connect at the UN Headquarters on September 25th.

This is a pilot for a larger international workshop series planned by AI Safety Connect.

Two focused sessions:

Session 1: Designing Effective Frontier Lab Coordination
What makes cross-lab safety coordination actually work? We'll identify coordination gaps, communication bottlenecks, and what would make international workshops genuinely useful. Your input directly shapes the design of our 2026 workshop series.

Session 2: Operationalizing AI Red Lines
In this technical discussion, we'll work through concrete challenges in defining and verifying risk thresholds and "red lines" for frontier AI development.

Format:

  • Facilitated discussion and interactive polling

  • Chatham House Rule applies

  • Technical focus (frameworks and protocols, not proprietary details)

  • Light refreshments and vegan lunch provided

Who Should Attend

Technical practitioners working on AI safety, including:

  • Those at frontier labs (safety researchers, eval specialists, red teamers)

  • Independent AI safety researchers and evaluation organizations

  • Those working on or supporting AI verification, forecasting, and safety standards

We're particularly interested in perspectives on how frontier labs can better coordinate with each other and with the broader safety ecosystem.

Schedule

  • 10:00 - 10:15 | Welcome & Introductions

  • 10:15 - 10:45 | Session 1: Lab Coordination Design

  • 10:45 - 10:50 | Coffee break

  • 10:50 - 11:35 | Session 2: Operationalizing AI Red Lines

  • 11:35 - 12:00 | Open discussion & synthesis

  • 12:00 - 13:00 | Lunch (vegan options)
