SKIZA 04: Canadian Hip-Hop W/ DJ REALZ

SKIZA 04 W/ DJ REALZ

For the fourth edition of SKIZA, we're joined by DJ REALZ, a cornerstone of Toronto's DJ culture whose journey behind the decks began in the 1990s. Raised within the city's rich vinyl scene, DJ REALZ has spent decades crafting sets that seamlessly blend Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul, and House, always with the unmistakable warmth and groove that defines Toronto's sound.

For this session, DJ REALZ takes us back to the Golden Era of Canadian Hip-Hop, revisiting the records that laid the foundation for today's Toronto music scene. Through an all-vinyl listening journey, we'll explore the artists who transformed Canadian rap from a local movement into a cultural force, from The Rascalz and Maestro Fresh-Wes to Choclair, Da Grassroots, Saukrates, Ghetto Concept, Kardinal Offishall, Mathematik, Jully Black, Glenn Lewis, and more. Together, we'll uncover the stories, sounds, and communities that shaped a generation.

SKIZA is a listening series designed to deepen how we experience music. Through guided selections, storytelling, and conversation, featured speakers unpack their relationship to music, their creative process, and the cultural influences that shape their perspective. It's an invitation to slow down, listen intentionally, and discover new worlds through sound.
