OUR HEALTH, THE CLIMATE CRISIS, AND THE POWER OF COLLECTIVE ACTION
Symposium Topics: Climate Change and Health: Impact and Risk Reduction:Positive Visions of Local Collaborative Action
Kristin Hampshire, MD's Presentation Abstract Climate Change and Health: Impact and Risk Reduction
This presentation will focus on understanding the health risks associated with our changing climate. We will discuss the impact of heat, extreme weather, air pollution and beyond while reviewing strategies to reduce the risk of related illnesses.
Adam Aron's Presentation Abstract Positive Visions of Local Collective Action that Change Our Social Relations.
Our social mobilization for climate action has been too tiny to leave fossil fuels in the ground, global heating and climate damages are accelerating, fossil finance and extraction are at record levels, the green technical transition is deeply inadequate when done for profit, and there is now in the US, and elsewhere, a backlash that plans to erase the meager policy gains; and beyond the problem of carbon pollution we are superseding 7 of 9 planetary boundaries. In this presentation I will encourage us to start the emotional work of reckoning with these facts, and, as part of that, to consider positive visions of local collective action that change our social relations.
