SydAR Meetup #9
We are eager to showcase Augmented Reality demos from the community — do you have an AR creation you'd like to show at the event? It can be anything from a prototype to a released app! Students, tinkerers, enthusiasts, agencies — all are welcome! Get in touch and let me know!
If you've got an AR talk or AR demo you'd like to showcase — feel free to message me here on Luma, or email me at [email protected]

Talks from 7pm
Declan Dwyer & Oliver Weidlich - What inspired us at WWDC & AWE
Sharing some of our favourite sessions, demos and conversations from WWDC26 and AWE USA.
Ari Jacobs - Custom image tracking for Spatial AR on Meta Quest 3
With Meta opening headset camera access to developers, immersive spatial AR on Quest is entering a new phase. ArUco-style marker tracking is already within reach, but natural image target tracking — the kind of workflow familiar from Vuforia-style mobile AR — is still largely missing.
QuestAR is our early attempt to fill that gap: a custom ORB-style tracking system that lets developers upload images generate tracking sets, and detect those targets directly inside Unity.
This pre-release demo will walk through the Camera API, the pitfalls we’ve hit so far, and the tracking architecture behind the prototype. The goal is to gauge developer interest and start a conversation about what practical spatial AR on Quest could look like.
Anshul Dayal - The Smart Glasses Spectrum: Understanding the Next Generation of Wearables
Smart glasses are rapidly becoming one of the most talked-about categories in XR, but not all devices are trying to solve the same problem.
This session from Anshul Dayal, an XR expert with 10 years of experience, will explore the evolution of smart glasses, from AI-powered camera-and-audio glasses to display-based systems and emerging AR wearables.
Anshul will also break down the technologies behind today's products, examine the trade-offs between form factor and functionality, and look at where companies like Meta, Google, Apple, Everysight and others are placing their bets.
Whether you're new to the space or already building for XR, this talk will provide a practical framework for understanding the next wave of wearable computing.
