Vox Populi, Vox Machina: Civic Engagement in the Age of AI

We at Ember x Ariadnic Mosaic are reopening our doors to bring curious minds together to dissect the urgent, complex narratives shaping the Futures of Humanity.
This time, we want to explore: How has AI impacted politics & civic engagement on political issues? If everyone has their own version of what's real, have we lost the shared foundation needed for social progress?
Case study: In November 2024, a little-known candidate named Călin Georgescu unexpectedly won Romania's presidential election. His TikTok account had amassed over 646,000 followers & 7.2 million likes. Then, something unprecedented happened. Romania's Constitutional Court annulled the election results, citing AI-generated content, bot networks, troll farms, & algorithm-manipulation techniques. Romania became the 1st European country to cancel a presidential election due to cyber warfare.
Romania's annulment triggered mass protests from both pro-democracy activists who supported it & far-right groups who claimed a "coup" had taken place.
Inspired by the literary salons of 17th-century France, Futures of Humanity consists of intimate gatherings of 10 to 15 people, unifying artists, economists, scientists, philosophers, and everyday AI practitioners. We believe the trajectory of this technology belongs to all of us, not just the architects building it.
