Voice Connect Sydney: Build a Voice AI Agent Live
Most voice AI demos look great in a controlled environment. Put them on a real phone line with real callers and they fall apart. The gap isn't the model - it's everything underneath.
This session, we're skipping the slides. Bring a laptop. Over lunch, our forward deployed engineer will walk the room through building a working voice AI agent - from provisioning a phone number to wiring up speech-to-text, an LLM brain, and text-to-speech, all on the Telnyx platform.
By the end, you'll call your agent from your phone and hear it talk back. You'll see why co-locating telephony, inference, and media handling on the same network matters - because you'll hear the latency yourself.
No prior experience with Telnyx needed. We'll set you up on the day. Basic coding familiarity helps - we'll provide the snippets and lunch.
What we'll build:
Provision a phone number and set up a Voice AI Agent
Wire up STT, TTS, and an LLM - your choice of open-weight or proprietary models
Define agent behaviour: system prompts, tool calls, conversation flow
Run inference on open-weight models hosted on Sydney-edge GPUs
Make a live call to your agent and hear it respond in real time
What to bring:
A laptop
A phone to call your agent at the end
No Telnyx account needed - we'll set you up

This event is for:
Builders - the people who design, ship, and maintain systems where voice AI meets real traffic. If you're a developer, AI engineer, technical PM, or founder evaluating voice AI platforms, this is a hands-on session, not a pitch.
Maybe you've been comparing voice AI providers. Maybe you've built a prototype and hit walls scaling to real calls. Maybe you just want to see what production-grade voice AI feels like when the whole stack is in one place. Either way, you'll walk out with a working agent and a real understanding of what's happening under the hood.
If you're migrating from ElevenLabs, Vapi, or Twilio, you'll see the difference in the call you make at the end.
About Voice Connect
Voice Connect is Telnyx's forum for builders and leaders working on production voice AI and communications infrastructure. Each session focuses on a specific challenge - from latency and data centre proximity to SIP architecture and, this time, building the thing yourself. We keep it hands-on so you leave with something real, not just notes.
