"The Challenge of Self-Learning"
Many artists aspire to create vivid worlds and life-like characters straight from their imagination. However, the path to improvement can feel overwhelming when confronting the process.
The solution? Introduce 3 visual flashlights (proportions, silhouettes, and level of detail) to create a roadmap for confident practice!
This talk cuts through the noise of overcomplicated tutorials and guesswork, focusing on the core principles of drawing and painting: cultivating understanding while building your "visual flashlights".
We’ll equip you with strategies to demystify self-directed learning, unpack why simplification bridges observation, and give you the tools to confidently translate what you see into what you create.
This talk is presented by Kingston Chan, a veteran concept development artist, art director, and educator with over 20 years of experience, and Damien Soh, a Singapore-based visual artist and illustrator.
