About Event

Sound made visible, movement made tangible. Join us in the North Gallery in front of Touching Sound — Irene Hsiao's improvisational dance meets Caroline Jesalva's live violin in a real-time dialogue between body and sound. Right after, join creator Kristen Youngman for an artist talk on building the piece — from first sketch to interactive prototype and how it brings to life the visual language of the original Tangible Sound exhibition and Deutsch's body of work.

Kristen Youngman, Touching Sound

Youngman is a Chicago-based immersive artist and experiential creative director who designs site-specific, participatory experiences. Visuals are built to serve the concept and the space, interaction built to create shared moments of joy. As Immersive Director for Tangible Sound, she designed Touching Sound to capture the spirit of the Velvet Lounge, placing audiences inside a living portrait of Chicago's jazz legacy.

Irene Hsiao, Dance
Hsiao makes dances with visual art in museums and public spaces, a practice that includes interaction with visual artworks and experimental engagement with artists, institutions, and the public

Caroline Jesalva, Violin
Jesalva is a Chicago-based improviser, violinist-vocalist, multidisciplinary artist, and curator. She studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA where she developed a practice centered on contemporary, improvised, and experimental music composition and performance.
