For Chords and Conversation #10
What you need to know
What to expect?
Imagine a purposeful house party. An evening dedicated to attention, connection and great music.
At each event, we begin by removing distractions and putting our phones away. After a few minutes of mingling, we gather around the record player to listen to an album in its entirety. For about an hour we listen in silence, no phones, no talking, just the music.
Once the album ends, we indulge in discussions about the music, snacks, and good conversation. We begin with a short facilitated discussion about the music, and move to free form after that.
This is designed by a music amateur, all you need is an interest in music, and your open heart. No music expertise required.
The Music
What kind of albums? Think classics that lasted the test of time. Specifically, albums that follow a story or carry a message. Albums that are more than just good music.
This week: TBD
Come listen to good music. Make a new friend, or bring a connection along to get to know them better. If you’re bringing someone, please ensure they register individually.
My Story
Hi, This is Aaron. I moved to Toronto during COVID. You bet, building a community was difficult. Today, I love Toronto more than ever, and call it home.
With "For Walkers and The Belt", my goal is to create spaces that facilitate making new connections, and building communities, as well as expanding my own community. I hope to do this by hosting the kind of medium-sized, slow-paced gatherings that allow for better conversations and deeper connections.
FAQ
Should I bring snacks? You don’t have to, and there is no expectation. However, you are welcome to bring snacks to share with everyone.
What about drinks? Anything non-alcoholic is okay.
Can I know the album in advance? I like the album to stay a surprise. Try to enjoy the suspense.
Who pays for all this? Initially, I received support from the Toronto Event Generator. Moving forward, I will personally cover the cost of the music and other expenses. If you wish to support me, you can buy me a beer. It’s just like buying someone a cup of coffee—I just like beer better. Thank you.
