About Event

In this afternoon workshop, you will design and hand-build a ceramic wall sconce light. Beginning with a slab of clay, you will learn the design process for ceramic lighting and develop an original piece considering the interplay between form, light source, shadow, translucency, and the wall. Students will learn hand-building slab construction techniques, how to wire a plug-in lamp using simple materials from Bauhaus, and how to design for light source and wall mounting. You will be guided throughout the design and construction process. The workshop is suitable for both beginner and advanced ceramicists; previous experience is not required.

We will design plug-in sconces that can be mounted on a wall with two small nails. The cord plugs into an outlet and doesn't require hardwiring.

The ticket includes material costs. Bisque and glaze firing service is an additional 10 Euros per kg (likely around 10 euros depending on how much clay you use). We will primarily focus on form, and you will choose a glaze color for the work to be glazed. If you prefer to glaze the piece yourself, you can pick it up bisqued and glaze it at a ceramics studio. Finished work will be available for pickup two to three weeks after the workshop.
