At this signature event, we spotlight real stories from founders who’ve navigated the ups, downs, and in-betweens of building in Toronto’s fast-moving tech scene. These aren’t polished pitches or surface-level panels, they’re honest, behind-the-scenes conversations that reveal what it actually takes to launch, scale, and grow a company.
You’ll hear from entrepreneurs who’ve taken bold bets, faced unexpected challenges, and found creative ways to move forward. Joella Almeida is the CEO & Co-Founder of MedEssist, bringing a diverse background spanning technology, operations, and partnerships. She began her career as an Operations Specialist with US Bank, supporting merchants across North America, before moving into leadership as Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce. Later, as a Shopify Partner, Joella worked closely with businesses nationwide, designing and onboarding solutions that showcased the transformative power of customizable technology. Her experiences across commerce, finance, and innovation now fuel her mission at MedEssist: empowering pharmacies and communities with accessible, technology-driven healthcare solutions.
Michael is the Co-Founder & Board Member of LumiQ, a mobile podcast platform that transforms professional education by offering engaging conversations with business leaders as verifiable learning for designated financial professionals. He was CEO from inception until July 2025. Before establishing LumiQ, Michael served as the CFO/COO of GestureLogic, a wearable technology startup. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and earned his HBA from the Ivey School of Business. Michael also has an MA in international security from Carleton University.
Emily Hosie is the Founder & CEO at REBEL, she founded REBEL to make smart shopping the standard while tackling retail waste at scale. Joe Noss is the Co-Founder & CEO of Publicus, where he leads strategy, operations, and growth initiatives. With a track record in digital innovation and public sector engagement, Joe bridges tech and policy to drive impact and scale. He is passionate about leveraging data-driven solutions to foster civic trust and enhance public interest outcomes.
