Gen AI Masterclass - November Edition
Gen AI Masterclass, November Edition: From Policy to Practice
You’ve written your AI policy. You may have started labelling AI content. Now comes the harder part: making it work every week, across a real team, on real data.
Most AI problems in SMEs aren’t about the tools. They come from unclear ownership, policies nobody follows, and data that isn’t ready. Pilots stall, outputs can’t be trusted, and nobody knows who signed off on what. This session tackles both sides: the governance that keeps AI use in check, and the data foundations that make AI worth using.
What you’ll walk away with
What belongs in your AI policy, and how to keep it current rather than filed away
How to set up an AI council: who sits on it, what it decides, and how often it meets
A simple weekly rhythm for managing AI use across your team
Clear ownership of labelling: who decides what’s AI-generated and what isn’t
Where your data actually lives, and why that matters before AI touches it
Practical steps to clean, secure and guardrail your data
Why so many AI pilots stall, and how to stop yours joining them
Speakers
Siobhán O’Leary, Co-Founder & CEO, The Institute of Applied AI
Siobhán spent over ten years leading multidisciplinary teams in GMP environments across healthcare, pharma and life sciences, where every decision has to stand up to an auditor. She now helps organisations build AI capability that is practical and responsible, aligned to the EU AI Act and ISO 42001. Her Trust by Design framework embeds governance from the start rather than bolting it on later. She’ll share what the most regulated sectors are learning about AI, and what smaller businesses can take from it.
Eoin O’Sullivan, Director, Data Engineering & Analytics, Carne Group
Eoin leads data engineering and analytics at Carne Group, where he built CAMDA, the platform featured as a Microsoft customer story. His team’s CAMDA AI-Ristotle project won AI Project of the Year at the Analytics Institute awards, ahead of names like Salesforce and Hostelworld. He has since presented at Data Céilí, Ireland’s largest Microsoft Fabric conference, and on the main stage at the Analytics Summit. He’ll explain why data readiness is the biggest gap he sees, and what to do about where your data lives, how clean it is and who can access it.
