About Event

What if an application passes every functional test but still leaves the door open to attackers?

As QA engineers, we focus on validating requirements, verifying user journeys, and ensuring applications behave as expected. But functional correctness doesn't guarantee security. Finding the gaps requires a different mindset: thinking beyond how a system should work to how someone could misuse, manipulate, or break it.

At The Test Tribe’s 1st Dublin Meetup, Opeyemi Gbadamosi will explore how QA engineers can adopt an attacker’s mindset to uncover security vulnerabilities and bring security-focused testing into their everyday workflows.

Session

Beyond Functional Testing: Thinking Like a Hacker as a QA Engineer

Speaker: Opeyemi Gbadamosi, QA Engineering Manager at Quidax

Opeyemi has over six years of experience in software testing, test automation, and quality engineering leadership. She has helped establish and improve QA practices, build scalable automation frameworks, strengthen testing processes, and drive a culture of quality across engineering teams.

Her expertise spans API, web, and mobile test automation, performance testing, CI/CD integration, and application security. In this session, she will demonstrate how familiar testing tools and techniques can help QA engineers identify security risks that traditional functional testing might overlook, without requiring them to become penetration testers.

The session will cover:

  • Think Beyond Functional Requirements: Adopt an attacker's mindset to identify scenarios that conventional functional tests may miss.

  • Recognise Common Security Vulnerabilities: Understand broken access control, business logic flaws, and race conditions through practical examples.

  • Apply Practical Security Testing Techniques: Explore how familiar API testing tools can help investigate potential vulnerabilities.

  • Integrate Security into Everyday QA: Incorporate security-focused scenarios into existing test plans and automation workflows.
