About Event

What can you really learn in 15 minutes?

Sometimes, one focused story, one hard-earned lesson, or one practical idea is enough to change how you think about your work.

That is the idea behind Atomic Talks: short, focused talks where members of the community take the stage to share something worth knowing.

For the 3rd Edition of Atomic Talks at our 29th Porto Meetup, 3 community speakers will each have just 15 minutes to share something they have learned, experienced, built, challenged, or discovered.

No long presentations. No filler. Just four different perspectives and an evening built around learning from each other.

Atomic Talks – 3rd Edition

3 speakers. Three stories. 15 minutes each.

This edition of Atomic Talks gives members of The Test Tribe community an opportunity to step up and share something from their own experience.

Each speaker gets just 10 minutes to make their point. The format keeps every talk focused and gives attendees the chance to hear several different ideas in one evening.

The topics may be different. The experiences may be different. What connects them is that they come directly from people in the community who have something they think is worth sharing.

You may hear about a lesson from a project, a technique that changed someone’s approach, a mistake that taught them something, or a perspective that challenged how they think about software quality and technology.

You will not know exactly what you will learn until you are in the room, and that is part of the format.

Why Atomic Talks?

Not every useful idea needs a 60-minute presentation.

Sometimes, the most useful conversations start with something much smaller:

  • A practical lesson from a real project

  • A mistake that changed how someone works

  • A technique that made a process better

  • A perspective that challenged an assumption

  • An experience worth sharing with someone facing the same problem

Atomic Talks creates space for those ideas.

It is also an opportunity for community members to move from attendee to speaker, share their experiences with peers, and start conversations that can continue after the 10 minutes are over.

How This Meetup Is Different

  • Three speakers, one evening: Hear several perspectives instead of spending the entire meetup on one topic.

  • 15-minute talks: Enough time to make one clear point without stretching the idea into a long presentation.

  • Community-led: The talks come from members of the community sharing their own knowledge and experiences.

  • Different topics and perspectives: Each speaker brings something different to the room.

  • More than the talks: Stay afterwards to discuss the ideas, meet other practitioners, and continue the conversations started during the sessions.

Why You Should Show Up on 09 September

Come curious.

You might hear a technique worth trying, recognise a problem you have faced yourself, find a different way of thinking about your work, or simply discover a topic you want to explore further.

You will also get to meet testers, engineers, and other technology professionals from the Porto community and hear directly from people willing to put their experiences on the table.

And if you have ever thought, “I have something I’d like to share with the community,” Atomic Talks is a good way to see what a 15-minute community talk can look like.
