Welcome! To join the event, please register below.
About Event

Join the Mt. Adams Prescribed Burn Association for a one-day, hands-on learning experience on a prescribed burn. This workshop is open to anyone - no qualifications, experience, or equipment required.

When: Sunday, April 12th 2026 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Mt. Adams Community Forest, Pine Flats Tract (Mt. Adams Resource Stewards land)

Cost: Free!

What the day will include:

We will spent part of the morning reviewing basic prescribed fire concepts, tools, and processes. This portion will include learning opportunities for those new to prescribed fire and those with some experience who are looking to further their knowledge. Then we will work as a group to implement a small prescribed burn. We will spend lots of time during the burn explaining each step and giving people opportunities to ask questions and get involved with the process.

This entire training will take place outside and will be highly interactive and active - be prepared for lots of walking and swinging a tool!

Note: This workshop will be combined with the second day of our Wildland Firefighter Field Training, or S-130, allowing for wildland firefighter trainees to gain live fire experience while creating opportunities for peer-learning amongst trainees and Learn and Burn participants.

Curious about both events? The Wildland Firefighter Field Training (S-130) will be more focused on wildland firefighting systems, standards, and procedures and relevant applications for prescribed fire. Sunday’s combined S-130/Learn and Burn is more oriented towards introducing community members and landowners to prescribed fire and getting hands-on burn experience. Anyone is welcome to sign up for the full S-130 here: https://luma.com/qdo2tmyb.

Other notes:

  • Coffee/tea and snacks will be provided but please bring your own lunch

  • Plan on staying for the duration of the day so we have enough folks to execute and secure the burn.

  • If weather conditions are not appropriate for burning, we have a plan for alternate training activities.

  • PBA members will be given priority consideration if registrants exceed our workshop capacity.

  • Questions? Contact Emery Cowan at [email protected] or 303-931-9332
