WILDCARD! True Stories Told Live By YOU (July 15)
βWILDCARD! True Stories Told Live By You, An Open Mic Story Swap presented by In a Nutshell Storytelling
βHey, Sacramento. We're back. π
βWILDCARD! is happening Wednesday, July 15th, and we really, truly want you there.
βBut first, can we tell you about last month?
βBecause something happened at our June show that changed everything. We introduced a brand new element to WILDCARD: at the end of the night, the storytellers themselves vote for their favorite story. The person with the most votes wins $50 and a featured spot at the next show.
βIt was a little clunky the first time. We're not going to lie. But it was also kind of electric.
βWhich means July 15th, eight storytellers are going to get up, tell their truth with craft and intention, and then choose, all together, their favorite story of the night. That story gets fifty bucks and a feature spot in August!
βTrue stories, told live, by you. With stakes! We love it.
βOur Featured Storyteller:
βMichelle Wood β last month, Michelle put her name in the NOT HAT, told her story, and walked away with $50 and a feature spot. This month she's back, and she's bringing a story called The Second Time I Peed My Pants.
βWe're not going to tell you anything else about this story. The title says enough.
βAnd of course, the NOT HAT.
βEight storytellers will be drawn from the hat this month. Eight minutes. True stories. Crafted with your best intentions. Come early to sign up; spots fill up fast.
βSome people tell their first story at WILDCARD. Others come back month after month to stretch their craft, compete for the prize, or just be part of a room where humans actually listen to each other.
βEither way, you belong here.
β"Anyone can step up to the mic. All we ask is that you step up with intention." β THEE Amy Bee
βYour Nutshell Three:
βKeith Lowell Jensen: host, storytelling mastermind, the person who somehow always says the thing that ties the whole night together.
βAmy Bee: creator, producer, co-host, and the person most likely to be taking an anxiety nap somewhere inappropriate.
βAaron Carnes: scanning your ticket, providing structural support, radiating quiet competence. (Eye candy status: hubba hubba, per Amy Bee.)
βπ Wednesday, July 15 | 7pm (doors at 6pm β come early to sign up and put your name in the NOT HAT!) π Teneral Cellars | 1050 20th St #110, Midtown Sacramento ποΈ $15 in advance or door
βTeneral is a beautiful wine tasting room in the heart of Midtown. Come early, get a glass, settle in. Stay after and keep talking. The night doesn't have to end when the stories do.
βWe are building something wonderful here in Sacramento. Come help us build it.
βπ An optional monthly theme: a jumping-off point for those who want one. But the NOT HAT is always open to any true, personal story. No theme required. The most unexpected stories are often the best ones. JULYβS OPTIONAL THEME: NO, REALLY, IT GETS WORSE!
βA note on craft:
βStories are true, personal, and told live. We strongly encourage telling without notes; thereβs something that happens when a story lives in your body rather than on a page. But we welcome every storyteller as they are. What we always ask for is intention. Show up ready to share something real. Practice it. Polish it. PERFORM IT!
