This Is Not a Selfie: 4-Week Self-Portrait Workshop
Not your best angle. Your real one.
Four Sundays in a working artist's studio, looking at yourself the way you never have. Not only your face: your body, your back, your shadow, the parts you usually skip.
You'll be guided by Tom Alon, an Amsterdam painter and graduate of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. She'll teach you techniques, from drawing and colour to working with different materials, but also how to express yourself: what you see, what you feel, and what you choose to show.
The experience is introspective but playful and experimental. You leave with a finished self-portrait you will actually want to hang.
Maybe the best gift you can give yourself this year.
The four weeks
Look: slowing down and really observing yourself, before judging.
Loosen: experimenting with materials, colour and scale, and letting go of perfection.
Uncover: the parts you usually avoid or hide, and choosing what to show.
Claim: finishing your self-portrait, and seeing it among the others in the studio.
Each session starts with playful warm-up exercises, followed by tea and focused time on your portrait, and ends with looking at each other's work together.
Who it's for
Anyone curious to look at themselves in a new way. No art experience needed, just an open mind. It's a small group, so there's plenty of personal guidance, and you never have to share more than you want to.
