ARTWRLD PRESENTS: Robert Polidoro Private Artist Tour
Stowaway is proud to present Laying Pipe, a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based artist Robert Polidoro. The show features five new paintings on linen accompanied by a selection of framed pastel drawings, continuing Polidoro’s exploration of landscape, memory, and the human imprint on the natural world.
The exhibition takes its title from a formative experience in 2017, when Polidoro embarked on a cross-country ski trip through the Utah desert with his father and brother. Guided only by a natural gas pipeline stretching endlessly across the snow-covered mesa, the journey became a meditation on time, industry, and the tension between human intervention and untouched wilderness. Along the way, they encountered traces of ancient civilizations, modern extraction, and a haunting reminder of nature’s indifference—a frozen elk preserved by the cold.
In Laying Pipe, Polidoro reflects on this experience through painterly compositions that merge personal narrative with broader questions of what we call “natural.” His works evoke a world where wilderness and infrastructure coexist uneasily, revealing how even our most remote encounters with nature are shaped by history, culture, and human desire.
Born in Manhattan, Polidoro earned his BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2016 and studied in Rome through the European Honors Program. He has held residencies at Moosey (Norwich, UK, 2024) and exhibited internationally, with recent solo shows including Oh The Places You’ll Go (1969, New York) and Internal Combustion (Ascend Projects, Hong Kong). Laying Pipe marks his Los Angeles debut and first collaboration with Stowaway.
