About Event

The cultural pendulum is swinging back toward offline life, & the demand for good ol' fashioned in-person connection is rising.

Whether you're organizing a volunteer group, growing a community-oriented brand, or just trying to keep your own circle of friends close in a big city like Tokyo, the ability to bring people together well is turning into one of the more valuable skillsets you can have.

This raises the question:

How do we cultivate the kinds of communities that are needed within (busy) modern life, in a way that is sustainable for ourselves?

If this question is alive for you in some way, come join us to unpack it together!

🎙️ what you can expect

  1. A provocative lightning talk by Shane Brown, co-founder of Thinkers Social Club: one of the largest English-language discussion meetups in Tokyo (& widely regarded as the highest quality). Drawing from frameworks and mindsets as a PM, he'll dive into what's effective for scaling a community from zero, and low-effort systems to run it sustainably. His talk will set the scene for....

  2. Deep-dive discussions in small groups, where you can share your personal stories/dreams/struggles/experiences around building & being a part of community in modern urban contexts. Knowledge-sharing is also welcome!

⚠️ Come ready to think & engage!
This is not an event for passive participation or a space to just hand out your business card. We strongly encourage you to come ready to sincerely engage in the group discussions.

what is Changemakers Unplugged?

This event is vol. 5 of Changemakers Unplugged. We launched this series last year at Google for Startups, bringing changemakers across Tokyo together to have deeper conversations about important topics (including aging society, sustainable business, and AI safety.) Now we're continuing it at our home base in Meguro, with a brand new format.

what is Impact HUB Tokyo?

Impact HUB Tokyo (IHT) is part of the global Impact HUB network—one of the world’s largest communities for purpose-driven entrepreneurs. Since its opening in Meguro in 2013, IHT has served as a coworking and incubation space in Meguro, bringing together startups, freelancers, artists, and NPO leaders from Japan and abroad. Accredited as an incubation center by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2022, it continues to provide support for early-stage entrepreneurs through incubation programs and community initiatives. In 2023, IHT opened Communita Café, a neighborhood café that functions as a gathering place where locals and members can meet, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections.
