ATIHx Barcelona is hosting an informal gathering to discuss how we can collectively affect, inform, and improve the Responsible Tech ecosystem
This time, we’ll feature a guest presentation, followed by an open discussion. Then we’ll run a simple & fun activity to help you connect with people who care about similar issues across tech, ethics, policy, and social impact.

Morgan Klaus Scheuerman presents Fair Human-centric Image Benchmark.
AI has been scrutinized for its propensity to cause harm, especially to marginalized groups. In this talk, Morgan presents work on how the way identity is implemented in AI leads to harmful outcomes and showcases how technology designers regularly fail to engage with identity responsibly. Morgan concludes with an overview of a recent ethical dataset him and his team on the Ethics Team at Sony AI released: FHIBE. He describes their ethical approach to this dataset and its intention to help alleviate identity harms.
Morgan Klaus Scheuerman is a Research Scientist specializing in Human-Computer Interaction on the AI Ethics team at Sony AI. He received his PhD in Information Science at University of Colorado Boulder, where he was a 2021 MSR Research Fellow. His research focuses on the intersection of technical infrastructure and marginalized identities. In particular, he examines how gender and race characteristics are embedded into algorithmic infrastructures and how those permeations influence the entire system. His work has received multiple best paper awards and honorable mentions at CHI and CSCW. He earned his MS degree in Human-Centered Computing from University of Maryland Baltimore County and his BA in Communication & Media Studies (Minor Gender & Sexuality Studies) from Goucher College.
