Alter Magazine Launch
About Alter:
Alter Magazine is a monthly journal bringing to the world new literary writing on Science, Technology, and Progress, from South Asia.
With every story, we aim to alter our readers views & perceptions, bringing to them contemporary geniuses, cutting-edge ideas, and pathbreaking discoveries. This is a living journal documenting the dreams and dilemmas shaping South Asia’s aspirations for progress, capturing the region’s diverse energies as it seeks not just advancement for itself, but to help write the next chapter of collective human progress.
Alter Magazine is India’s response to Works in Progress - a monthly journal, an internet pocket, a community of thinkers dedicated to producing good writing.
About the event:
Our first edition dives into, ‘The secret history of Indian Science Fiction’.
For the inaugural launch, we’re bringing together Sci-Fi authors and Bangalore’s curious minds for an evening of stories, ideas, and conversations about the future.
We are excited to host Prashanth Srivatsa and Shweta Taneja.
Prashanth Srivatsa is the author of several stories of science fiction and fantasy. His short fictions have appeared in magazines such as Asimov's, F&SF and most recently, in the IF Anthology of Speculative Fiction. His debut novel, The Spice Gate, was a UK Sunday Times Bestseller and a Locus Award Finalist.
Shweta Taneja is an award-winning Indian author and journalist whose writing explores science, technology, climate, and society. A finalist for the Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire for her sci-fi short story The Daughter That Bleeds and a Charles Wallace Writing Fellow. She writes on deep tech and space for the Hindustan Times, and her books range from children’s climate fiction to an upcoming nonfiction project with WWF.
If you’re interested in giving a short ‘lightning talk’ on a story or idea that has inspired you, please let us know when registering, we are happy to work with you on this!
