ISC2 Silicon Valley Chapter | March 2026
Session 1: The Foundation of Strong Security
Tired of compliance that doesn’t translate into real security? This session turns CIS Controls 1 & 2 — Asset Inventory and Secure Configuration — into actionable steps that reduce risk and strengthen your security foundation.
Walk away with practical guidance to improve asset visibility, enforce configuration discipline, and drive measurable outcomes beyond simply checking boxes.
About the Speaker
Nick is a Senior Engineer with experience at Oracle, Jamf, and Axonius. He leads technical presentations, live demonstrations, and proof-of-value (POV) engagements, helping organizations cut through fragmented security platforms and translate complexity into clear, measurable business outcomes across asset visibility, continuous threat exposure management, and compliance maturity.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys traveling, exploring new technologies, and spending time outdoors with his family.
Session 2: Cybersecurity at Scale — Lessons from Major Event Operations
Major national events represent some of the most complex cybersecurity environments in the country — where global visibility, active threat actors, vendor sprawl, and operational resilience requirements converge.
In this session, Scott Alford, Senior Cybersecurity Advisor with CISA, shares real-world insights from major event cybersecurity planning and cross-sector coordination. Serving as a cross-sector liaison across critical infrastructure and public-private sector partners, he will break down what “cybersecurity at scale” looks like in practice — and how organizations of any size can apply these lessons to strengthen resilience, enhance information sharing, and mature their cybersecurity posture.
About the Speaker
Scott Alford is a cybersecurity leader and educator focused on advancing national resilience and offensive security workforce development. As a Senior Cybersecurity Advisor with CISA, he collaborates with critical infrastructure partners across industry and government to strengthen operational security and incident preparedness.
He also serves as a lecturer at San José State University, where he teaches advanced cybersecurity labs and mentors students competing in national cyber competitions.
