[AU] How to Use AI for Standards-Compliant Cable Sizing
Join us for a 90-minute technical webinar on using AI to size cables without compromising compliance. This free session is for electrical engineers, designers, and contractors who are already trying Claude or ChatGPT for design calculations.
General-purpose AI gives fast, confident answers, but in our tests, those answers were unreliable. Using worked examples from AS/NZS 3008.1.1:2025, Claude, on its own, quoted the superseded 2017 edition, estimated table values instead of reading them. It scored 2/10 and 0/10. It provides fast, confident answers, but in our tests, those answers were unreliable. The same model connected to ELEK's validated calculation engine scored 10/10 in both cases, with a traceable report.
We'll also show how one ambiguous phrase, "touching on a perforated cable tray", changed the result from 240 mm² to 300 mm², and how to write prompts that avoid this.
What You'll Learn
➤ Why General-Purpose AI Can't Size Cables on Its Own
No licensed access to the standard's tables, no control over which edition it uses, and no enforced checks.
➤ What Your Prompt Must Include
A checklist covering the standard, load, supply, cable, installation, correction factors and protection.
➤ Two Case Studies Side by Side
Claude alone vs Claude connected to ELEK AI, checked against the standard's own worked examples.
➤ How Wording Changes the Answer
How terms from the standard direct the AI to the wrong table, and how to fix it.
➤ Checking and Recording the Result
Reviewing assumptions and producing a report that you can put in your design file.
➤ Beyond AS/NZS 3008
Why do the same problems apply under BS 7671, IEC 60364-5-52 and NEC?
Why You Should Attend
AI is already being used for cable sizing, often without anyone checking it. This session shows where it falls short and gives you a practical way to achieve correct, auditable results.
