AI Assisted Design: Challenge & Crit
Vibe coding can churn out prototypes by the dozen, but how do we sharpen our eye for quality?
Bring your laptop and AI tools, team up around a fun design challenge, and level up your craft through collaborative design crits along the way.
Expect a hands-on, fast-paced workshop focused on creative problem-solving and learning from how others think and build. Whether you’re brand new to AI tools or already using them daily, come ready to build something, share your process, and have fun with it.
Hosted by Dan Ju Hyung Kim (Senior Design & Research Lead, IDEO)
In Partnership with OurSpace
This event is presented in partnership with OurSpace, Hawaiʻi's nonprofit makerspace dedicated to empowering creators, entrepreneurs, and innovators through community and hands-on learning. OurSpace brings a multidisciplinary approach to its work, staying open to learning new tools while remaining intentional about how they're used. From a design standpoint, they see AI as a creative tool for exploration and prototyping, something that expands what designers can experiment with, without replacing generative ideas while still emphasizing strong discernment and intentional use needed to guide how AI is applied. This workshop is meant to be educational, fostering meaningful discussion about the intersection of creativity and technology today.
Makerspace Tour & Getting There
New to OurSpace? They'll be hosting a tour of the makerspace before we begin. If you're interested, please arrive at 1:30pm.
We'll be meeting in the Creative Lab, upstairs at OurSpace. Here's how to find it: enter through the front door of OurSpace and head upstairs. Pass through the common area, head down the hallway past the bathrooms and kitchen, then turn left at the end. Go through the door, take a right, and you'll find the Creative Lab just around the corner on your right.
Parking
OurSpace is located at 1052 Waimanu Street, between the Public Storage and the Pacifica Apartments. Free garages are located within a 5 minute walk at South Shore Market, Ward Center, and Whole Foods. There is also a lot on Kamake'e between Kapiolani Blvd and Waimanu St that charges $2/hour or $5/hour early bird. Metered street parking is also available. Please refer to the parking map here!
