Junto: Nicotine as a Nootropic
Warning ⚠️ : You should only apply to join this conversation if you are not offended by other group members' controversial opinions and are planning to actively participate in the discussion.
Juntos are free flowing and unstructured, but here are some of the questions we will touch on:
In recent years, nicotine has been reframed as a potential nootropic. Nicotine pouches, gums, and lozenges have been on the rise, framed as “clean” alternatives to smoking.
But the debate remains unresolved:
Is nicotine a legitimate cognitive enhancer?
Is it a dangerously addictive substance undergoing rebranding by the same industries that profited from cigarettes?
If nicotine improves focus and memory in the short term, are we overlooking the long-term neurological costs?
Should society normalize nicotine use in the same way it has normalized caffeine/alcohol?
What is a Junto?
Benjamin Franklin founded the Junto Club as a way to discuss morals, politics, and natural philosophy to improve themselves and their community. The club was initially composed of twelve members who met on Friday evenings.
Our debates were to be conducted in the sincere spirit of inquiry after truth, without fondness for dispute or desire of victory. - Benjamin Franklin
