About Event

Presenter: Cristián Espinoza
Host: Casandra Silva Sibilin

Cristián Espinoza presented for the group back in November 2024 and now returns to share the latest on the work being experimented at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Teaching and Learning Lab using AI to support student learning.
The main focus is the use of single-agent and multi-agent systems to create experiences tailored to each student, accessing external sources of information while trying to escape the confines of the chat window. The session will show some of the insights the team at HGSE has found during this work, the potential it presents, and the next steps into this exploration.

About the presenter:
Cristián Espinoza is a Computer Science Engineer and Educator working on the potential of learning as an equalizer of opportunities. Originally from Chile, he has more than twenty years of experience as a tech entrepreneur. He started his Education path as a co-founder of uPlanner.com, an EdTech that works with Machine Learning/AI to help universities improve their effectiveness by using algorithms to solve complex problems such as the optimization of class schedules, drop-out prediction, and curriculum design, currently present in more than 16 countries. As an entrepreneur, he played different roles, including software architect of the solution, business development, and starting uPlanner’s operation in Colombia. He became part of Harvard University as a master’s student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a staff member. He currently works as the Sr. Learning Technologist at HGSE’s Teaching and Learning Lab, designing and developing tech solutions to improve students’ learning, mainly using agentic AI to create new experiences while capturing and analyzing student data. He believes in the future of education as a transformation driven by the technology-supported combination of the Learning, Cognitive, and Data sciences.
