CTO Network - Agents after the demo breakfast
Stop waiting for the next model. It's coming anyway, and it'll be better, cheaper and on every provider within a quarter. Frontier capability used to be the moat. It's now a commodity you rent by the token.
So the difference moved. It's no longer who has the smartest model. It's who has the best harness: the loop, the tools, the memory, the retries, everything that turns a model into something that finishes the job.
Without it, a four-hour task forgets step two, restarts from zero, and quietly burns a weekend of tokens in a retry loop. 😱
That's not a prompt problem. It's state, recovery, routing and cost control. Most teams are still hand-rolling their harness, or skipping it entirely and blaming the model.
The model is a commodity. The harness is the product. So what actually holds up once agents meet production? This breakfast is our attempt to find out.
🎙️ Opening panel: Agents after the demo
Anthony Diaz, Orq.ai
Rob Sutter, Cloudflare
Andreas Blixt, Biscuit
Hosted by Michael van Lier, Builders
No agent 101. No vendor pitches. Bring the bill that surprised you.
🧠 Then, into the roundtables
After the panel we split into three tables, three topics, two rounds. Small groups of 10 to 15. Pick the two conversations you care about most.
🧩 Agent state. Where does memory live between steps, and what happens when a long-running task fails halfway? How do you resume without starting from scratch?
💸 What an agent actually costs. Everyone knows the price per million tokens. Almost nobody knows the cost of one completed workflow. Routing, caching, retries and the loop that ate a weekend.
⚡ Gateway or speed. Teams argue about gateways, frameworks and model providers while the winners are on their fourth iteration. Does your stack choice matter at all, or is it just how fast you ship?
Three tables. Two rounds. No slides.
What to expect
Breakfast. Coffee. Honest numbers. A room of 30 to 45 CTOs and senior builders comparing what their agents cost, where they break and what they would never build themselves again.
Why it matters
Getting an agent to work once is easy now. Getting it to work every time, at a cost you can explain to your CFO, is where the real engineering sits. This morning is about sharing what that actually takes.
