Last time we built a sealed-bid auction on a public testnet and read everyone's "secret" bids straight out of storage. The obvious answer is to stop using a public chain. So this time we launch our own.
We'll stand up an Avalanche L1, allowlist exactly which addresses may transact on it — enforced by the chain itself, not by a modifier someone can forget to add — and give it a gas token we mint, so bidding costs participants nothing. Those two choices turn out to depend on each other, and we'll get into why.
Then the uncomfortable part. Your own chain controls who is in the room. It hides nothing from the people already in it, and in a procurement auction those people are your competitors — so most of part one survives intact. We'll close on what does encrypt on-chain state, and what it still gives away.
