“THE POETRY LAB, THE POWER OF THE PEN AND MIC” WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Unleash your words and voice in a dynamic, hands-on environment with Words Unrolled: A Collaborative Poem on Butcher Paper! Moving beyond the blank page and standard notebooks, this interactive workshop brings writers and artists of all experience levels together to co-create large-scale, multi-sensory poetic artwork. Working in small collaborative groups, you will explore powerful themes—such as identity, community, and transformation—using expansive rolls of butcher paper, bold lettering, oil pastels, and colorful design. It’s a low-stakes, high-energy space designed to break through writer’s block, spark fresh ideas, and rediscover he joy of collective storytelling.
Whether you are a seasoned poet, a curious visual artist, or simply looking to connect with others through shared creative expression, this workshop offers a welcoming, supportive atmosphere for all. You will learn techniques for visual composition, rhythm, and co-authoring while actively contributing your unique perspective to a vibrant group masterpiece. Join us to bounce ideas off fellow creators, experiment with kinesthetic writing, and showcase your work at the Southwest Creative Studio museum space!

☀️From August to November, Southwest Creative Studio transforms into an immersive, community-curated museum honoring the people who have shaped Chicago—and inspired change around the world.
☀️Created and curated in partnership with the International Servant Leaders Museum , Chicago-section curated in collaboration with Former Deputy Minister of Education for the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, Billy Ché Brooks and The Historical Preservation Society: Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party and made possible through the City of Chicago DCASE's Neighborhood Access Grant and We Like Clean.
☀️This three-month exhibition invites everyone to learn, reflect, connect, and discover how service can transform our communities.
☀️Through interactive exhibits, local stories, artifacts, workshops, teach-ins, and hands-on experiences, Seeds of Service celebrates servant leadership in action while investing in the next generation of changemakers.
