Warsaw Creative Club: All Saints Day Photo Walk
all saints day photo walk: evening edition
on 1 november poland goes quiet in the most beautiful way. it’s All Saints Day (Wszystkich Świętych), when families head out to cemeteries at dusk to light candles for the people they’ve lost. the whole country glows. it’s one of the most moving things u can witness here, and one of the most photogenic.
so we’re going for an evening walk, half photo walk, half little explainer.
Location: Powązki Cemetery
we start at 19:00 and wander together while the light fades and the candles come out. along the way i’ll tell u what the day is about, where the traditions come from, what people do and why, and what to expect if u’ve never experienced it.
if u’d rather just walk and shoot quietly, that’s completely fine too. take as much or as little of the context as u like.
a few things to know:
this is a day of remembrance, so we’ll be gentle about it. no flash, no intrusive photos, and if someone’s having a private moment we leave them to it. we shoot the light, the candles, the atmosphere, never people’s grief
dress warm, it will be properly cold by the evening
any camera works. phone, film, fancy thing, all welcome
no experience needed, and u don’t need to know a single thing about the holiday beforehand. curiosity is the only requirement
it’s a lovely way to understand a part of Polish life that’s easy to miss if nobody tells u about it, and a really good excuse to slow down and actually look.
come along. bring ur warmest coat and a respectful curiosity.
